Ah, fall. If you live in the Midwest this is likely one of your favorite seasons. The changing colors, crispness in the air and the bounty of fruits and vegetables make it hard to resist this magical time of year.
This weekend we walked to our local Wicker Park Farmers Market and were overwhelmed by the beautiful fruits and veggies we found.
We had a lot of fun sampling treats at the Market and really enjoyed the hickory jerky from Lando Jerky. I’m excited to see what more fall has to offer as the Market is open until October 29th.
After the Market, we treated ourselves (um, again) with donuts from the LA-based shop, Stan’s Donuts. I swear I only ordered three donuts, but somehow I ended up with five in my bag: Blueberry Glaze, Old Fashion Chocolate Glaze, Double Chocolate Glaze, Apple Fritter and the Biscoff pocket with Banana. I’m kinda a sucker for glazed donuts, and in the end my favorites where the Blueberry Glaze and Apple Fritter, definitely denser and “glazier” than cheaper versions. If we go again, I think I’ll do a little research ahead of time though to decide which donuts to choose as the place was packed and there wasn’t much time between walking in, queuing and placing your order. And of course having a toddler with his nose pressed to the bakery case didn’t help matters!
Next up on our fall checklist is apple picking. We went to Apple Holler in Sturtevant, Wisconsin last year and Asher had a blast, but it was SO crowded. Any recommendations for favorite apple picking places with maybe a little less of a crowd (or maybe I should just expect that during peak season)?
